Penrith Screenings Semester 1 2007

Good news! Screenings for Penrith have finally been completed. Starting next wednesday we’ll be running screenings twice a week! That’s 5 hours of anime, for you to watch. So without further ado here’s the details:

Death Note

Yamigami Light is a genius student who is bored and disappointed with humanity. One day he finds the death note, a strange note book normally carried by shinigami (death gods), allowing Light to kill anyone he wants, given a name and a face. Light sets out to create a world without criminals. As hundreds of criminals begin dropping dead the authorities begin to suspect something, and call in the legendary detective L.

Nodame Cantabile

At a top music academy in Japan, Shinichi Chiaki’s arrogance is matched only by his top-notch piano playing. But when Chiaki and the teacher get into a fight, he’s demoted to the reject class. Chiaki is left to pursue his dream of being a composer while surrounded by a bunch of loser musicians and one annoying girl, Noda, who has proclaimed herself Chiaki’s girlfriend. It doesn’t help that Noda, who insists on being called Nodame, lives right next door to him.

 D.Gray-man

Akuma, monsters born from dead souls mistakenly recalled by their loved ones to the living world, are the weapons of the Millennium Earl, who is intent on the destruction of the world. Allen Walker has been cursed with an anti-Akuma weapon as his left arm and an eye that sees the former soul of the Akuma since his youth. He is also one of the few who contain “Innocence”, a substance that allows him to kill Akuma and fight the Earl. With these powers, he joins the Black Priest Organization as an Exorcist and sets out with other Exorcists to stop the Earl`s attempts to annihilate the human race.

Mai Otome

Arika Yumemiya has traveled far in search of her goal: the prestigious Gualderobe Academy. This is the school where young girls are trained to become Otomes, protectors of royal leaders throughout the lands. Here, Arika makes plenty of friends, but some enemies know something about her past that she does not. Nevertheless, her spirit and determination will keep pushing her forward. Adapted from its predecessor, Mai-HiME, this series is not a direct sequel, but an alternate universe setting featuring some of the Mai-HiME cast.

Jungle wa Itsumo Hare nochi Guu

The story is about Hale, a 10 year old boy who lives with his mother Weda in a small village in a very strange jungle. Hale`s mom likes to sleep in all day and party hard with her friends all night. Things change one evening when Weda comes home with a friend for Hale, a cute girl named Guu. But when Hale wakes up the next morning, Guu has transformed into a sullen, nasty, sarcastic joker who takes great pleasure in making Hale`s life utterly miserable. Guu can swallow anything, and regurgitate it whole, among many other bizarre abilities.
