After the screening of cult series GANTZ (episode 1) Philip will discuss some of the key elements that are currently shaping contemporary ‘teen angst’ anime, as well as demonstrate the connections between anime and manga. Through his discussion of Japanese art traditions and the Japanese approach to computer graphics, audience members will discover how anime transposes graphic energy into dynamic motion.
This evening is a must for anyone who has gleaned the weirdness of anime but could not uncover rhyme or reason for the weirdness; and those who already know and revel in that very weirdness.
