Mid-semester marathon time again! This time we’re going to be running a sampler marathon with some of the newest anime from Japan as well as a few classics. All the titles were hand picked by the executives as anime we think really goes off. We’ll be screening the first episode of each.

Shuffle : When two doors are discovered in an ancient ruin, the gateways to shinkai, the realm of the shinzoku (Gods) and makai, the realm of the mazoku (Demons) are irreversably opened. The races of human, shinzoku, and mazoku come together in the mortal world and nothing will ever be the same. One day, two new families move next door to a boy who had previously been living a very peaceful life. In one house lived the family of the King of the Gods, and in the other lived the family of the King of the Demons. Both families had one daughter whose single wish to live next to the boy they had fallen in love with years ago has just been fulfilled. Also living with the boy is his childhood friend. With these three girls vying for his affections, the boy finds that his new life filled with despair, jealousy, and just a little hope is beginning.

Full Metal Panic: The Second Raid : This series is set about two months after the events ocurred in the Tuatha de Danaan at the end of the original series. Mithril becomes aware of a secret organization that has technology able to counter the ECS (Electronic Cloaking System) mode. This organization, known as Amalgam, also has “Black Technology”, obtained from “Whispered” like Kaname Chidori, and like the other intelligency agencies, they intend to obtain more. However, when Sousuke’s mission to protect Chidori is terminated by Mithril, all seems to be in place for Amalgam’s plans… Like many of its fans know, it is based of the FMP novel “The End of Day by Day.”

LOVELESS : Twelve-year old Aoyagi Ritsuka lost his only kin when his brother, Aoyagi Seimei, was killed under mysterious circumstances. One day, he meets Wagatsuma Soubi, who claims to know his brother. It turns out that Soubi and Seimei used to be a fighting pair, whereby Soubi was the “Fighting Machine” and Seimei was the “Sacrifice”. Now that Seimei is gone, Soubi ‘belongs’ to Ritsuka who will become his new “Sacrifice”. After learning that Seimei was killed by an organisation known as the “Seven Moons”, Ritsuka decides to join forces with Soubi and investigate the truth behind his brother’s death.

Zettai Shounen : Aizawa Ayumu is a young boy, who is sent to a small town called Tana to live with his father for a while. Even though he doesn’t want to go, he agrees to do so when her mother offers him a mountain bike. Ayumu used to live in Tana before, and now his memories of the time are shrouded in mystery - apparently something happened when he was a child. Enter Miku, a young girl who knows more than she tells, weird glowing lights floating around, reflections of UFOish objects in the eyes of cats and dogs, a nosy female announcer, a forest with a mysterious past, and a weird boy called Wakkun, who wears the clothes Ayumu used to when he was a child, and you get the world of Zettai Shonen, where mysteries remain mysteries amidst a slow, normal, everyday life.

Futakoi Alternative : The Futaba Detective Agency is run by Rentarou, who has taken over the family business after his father’s death. Along w/ Sara & Souju, his live-in gorgeous identical twin assistants. He ends up running afoul of the local Yakuza and a lot of action ensues.

Gun X Sword : Armed with a metal sash that straightens into a sword, lanky swordsman Van is traveling through the desert, searching for the mysterious clawed man who killed his bride. Along the way he picks up a fellow traveler: Wendy, a young girl whose town he saves from bandits by summoning a mecha with his sword. Wendy is searching for her missing older brother, whose engraved gun she carries on her back. In their mutual quest they run afoul of more bandits and villains, a mysterious woman named Carmen99, and more mecha battles a la Wild West

Karas : When a series of horrific murders takes place in a desolate future, the hero Karas must rise to his destiny… whatever it may entail.

Da Capo (Series 1) : Junichi Asakura lives with his adoptive sister Nemu in the crescent-shaped island of Hatsune Jima, a place where cherry blossoms bloom throughout the year. In this island, people have mysterious powers and attributes. For example, Junichi has the power to see other people’s dreams, and he was also taught by his grandmother to magically create sweets. One day, Junichi’s cousin and childhood friend, Sakura Yoshino came back from America all of a sudden. To Junichi’s surprise, she looks exactly the same as the girl that moved away six years ago, and hasn’t aged one bit. And she came back to remind Junichi of their childhood promise… It is a bittersweet tale of magic, love, hidden desires, and unattainable dreams.

Emma (Victorian Romance Emma) : In late 19th century London, William Jones, a member of the gentry, meets and falls in love with Emma, and she with him. This chance meeting overturns both their lives - for Emma is a maid, and the barriers of class and wealth stand between them.

Gakuen Alice : In a small country school, Sakura Mikan and Imai Hotaru are classmates and best friends - in their own way. Ditzy, emotional Mikan seems ill-matched with aloof, emotionless Hotaru, yet they are together all the time… until Hotaru gets called away to study at the strange and forbidding Alice Academy. In her anguish at being left behind, Mikan finally decides to follow her friend - and doing so, she makes a strange discovery. Let’s just say that the Alice Academy isn’t your average school…

Battle Programmer SHIRASE : Battle Programmer Shirase, also known as BPS, is a free programmer with super hacking abilities who doesn’t work for money. What he does work for is certainly something that only people like him would appreciate. But, his demeanor certainly doesn’t suit the jobs he is hired for. With the evil King of America causing trouble via the internet, Shirase is nothing but busy as each new adventure brings even more interesting people into the picture.

Iriya no Sora, UFO no Natsu (OAV) : Asaba Naoyuki is an ordinary high school student. As a member of his school’s press club, he’s just spent the summer camping outside the local military base, in hopes of seeing the UFOs that are secretly kept there, according to local legend. Returning to school, he meets a strange girl, Iriya Kana, and gradually comes to realize that she is more than merely strange - and that a dark secret lies beneath the world that he knows.

Peach Girl : Peach Girl is about an average high school girl, Momo Adachi, who everyone thinks is a beach bunny / slut because of her tanned skin. The actual reason she is so tanned is because she was on the swim team and tans very easily. She likes a boy, Toji, who she heard only likes non-tanned girls. This causes her to question who she is and have low self esteem. She spends a lot of time trying to remake herself into the girl she believes he wants. However, she has a friend, Sae, who likes to go behind Momo’s back and make her life terrible, mostly by trying to take Toji away from her. All the while there’s another boy, Kairi, who is in love with Momo.

Air Movie : A long time ago, a winged maiden was held prisoner in a castle - cursed never to experience love, lest she die. Centuries later, in a sleepy coastal town, a young girl relives this agony.
